Chiefswood National Historic Site was built between 1853 and 1856 by Mohawk Chief George Johnson for his English bridge, Emily.  It is the birthplace and childhood home of the celebrated Canadian poet Pauline Johnson.  It is the only surviving pre-Confederation Native mansion in Ontario.  Chiefswood is open to the public for visitors between Victoria Day weekend in May and Thanksgiving weekend in October, Tuesday through Sunday, 10 am to 3pm.  Chiefswood hosts a number of special events throughout the year.
