Mission Statement
Playwrights' Workshop Montréal (PWM) is a nationally mandated Canadian play development organization and a professional theatre centre dedicated to the development of contemporary Canadian work and new writers for the stage. A member-based organization, our objective is to provide a critical and vibrant environment for playwrights to further the craft of writing and prepare new scripts for production.
Description
PWM is Canada's oldest national play development centre. Scripts developed at PWM have gone on to several hundred productions at venues as varied as Artistic Fraud of Newfoundland, the Festival de théâtre des Amériques, the Vancouver Playhouse and the Stratford Festival. PWM is affiliated with the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres (PACT) and the Quebec Drama Federation (QDF), and employs members of the Canadian Actors' Equity Association (CAEA) and l'Union des artistes (UDA).
PWM is a non-profit registered Canadian charity, governed by a board of directors comprised of playwrights, artists and business professionals. We receive operating support from The Canada Council for the Arts, the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec, and the Conseil des arts de Montréal. We are also supported by membership fees, sponsorships and individual, corporate and foundation donations.
