Essential in fighting hunger: nurturing faith, hope and love

The Mustard Seed Street Church has been fighting hunger and transforming lives in Greater Victoria since 1975. Our mission is to build community and foster relationships while providing essential and transformative services to those in need.

We serve a diverse population facing food insecurity, poverty, and other challenges. Our programs promote dignity, well-being, and connection by addressing immediate and long-term needs. As a nearly 100% community-funded organization, The Mustard Seed operates:

- A choice-based Food Bank – distributing over 650,000 lbs of food, beverages, and hygiene products annually, equivalent to 1,511 meals per day.

- The Food Rescue program – housed at our innovative Food Security Distribution Centre, collecting and redistributing over 2.8 million lbs of food and essentials to 70+ local service agencies, reaching 65,000+ people with food insecurity in the Greater Victoria area.

- Daily hot meals and hospitality services – providing over 90,000 lbs of food annually as hot meals and snacks,  over 62,000 cold drinks, and innumerable cups of coffee and tea, along with clothing, foot care, haircuts, first aid, advocacy, and case management support.

- Seasonal support programs – including Fair Start for Kids, which equips 600 children annually with back-to-school supplies, and the Christmas Hampers program, which distributes 1,200 holiday hampers and hosts a Christmas celebration for over 400 community members.

- Church services and spiritual support, welcoming all who seek faith and connection.

For 50 years, The Mustard Seed has been a place of hope, support, and resilience. No one is left behind at The Mustard Seed, and our work continues to evolve to meet the growing needs of our community.
