Welcome to the Ship!
Thank you for joining us here on our donation page. We have just completed our 40th year of producing theatre, and can't wait to continue into our 41st! You can read a bit about our history, mission and mandate below.
The Ship is currently run by Artistic Director Laura Vingoe-Cram, General Manager Blaze Fraser, and Marketing & Community Relations Director Rooks Field-Green. Our team is passionate about building community through theatre and performing arts, and adjacent community programming.
Our current projects include launching Community Theatre programming in Parrsboro, the very beginnings of a renovation project to become a year-round facility, and our youth series programming which includes but is not limited to our high school drama club, March & Summer drama camps, school shows, and a Queer Drop-in that is youth-centric. And that is all on top of our regular Summer Season filled with major productions, plays from the Maritimes, and concerts!
About Ship's Company Theatre
Mary Vingoe and Michael Fuller started Ship’s Company in 1984 when they decided to stage the show You’ll Be In Her Arms By Midnight and Other Parrsboro Stories aboard the retired ferry vessel, the M.V. Kipawo, for a week. Thus began the improbable success story of a professional theatre company being born in the rural nook of the Bay of Fundy in Cumberland County within the village of Parrsboro.
In 2004, after twenty years under a tent on the ship, Ship’s Company Theatre opened the doors to a new two-million dollar facility. And here we are in 2023, 39 years later, with a venue that was built around the retired and permanently landlocked Kipawo and features the original ship as the front deck entrance to what Ship’s Company is today.
Ship’s Company production season is a jam-packed three-month variety of events which includes its mainstage programming, collaborations, presentations, a Picnic Play Series, our Shipwright Sessions, and a concert series highlighting Atlantic Canadian musicians throughout the summer. And don't forget our drama camps and BIPOC playwright residency!
