About Vancouver Rape Relief and Women's Shelter

Established in 1973, Vancouver Rape Relief Society is Canada's first rape crisis centre. We incorporated in 1975 and in the early 1980s opened a transition house. We operate a free 24-hour confidential crisis line and emergency shelter for women and their children escaping male violence. We provide advocacy, accommpaniment, information, referrals, and peer support for women as they navigate the medical, justice, and social institutions.

As a collective we work to transform social attitudes, laws and institutional procedures that perpetuate violence against women. We engage the public through prevention education initiatives and work with other groups and leaders against poverty, women's inequality, and for peace, social justice and sustainability of resources for future generations.
