Mission Statement
Scientists in School is dedicated to building a strong foundation of science and innovation among Canadian youth. Our mission is to ignite scientific curiosity in children so that they question intelligently; learn through discovery; connect scientific knowledge to their world, and consider a career in science.
Description
Founded in 1989, Scientists in School is an award-winning charity dedicated to sparking scientific interest in children through hands-on discovery. SiS reaches close to 600,000 young students each year (and their teachers and parents!) with innovative, effective and fun hands-on science and technology experiences.
When they experience one of SiS's 60+ curriculum-aligned half-day workshops, students from Kindergarten-Grade 8 become scientists in their own classrooms, coming to life as environmental biologists, engineers, chemists, technologists and more. Our workshops are are connected to real world issues, promoting environmental stewardship, and showing how technology leads to innovative solutions to solve today’s most pressing problems.
Led by close to 400 local scientists, engineers, technical experts and role models, Scientists in School taps into the power of "learning by doing" to inspire the scientists, researchers and innovators that will shape Canada’s future.
