The Second Story Art Society (Operating as TRUCK) is a non-profit artist-run centre dedicated to the development and public presentation of contemporary art. Since it was founded in 1983 the Society has facilitated over 300 exhibitions in addition to countless activities and events in support of cultural development and contemporary art appreciation. Currently, TRUCK hosts 15 exhibitions annually in its two exhibition venues, and various collaborative events and activities with other arts groups and nonprofit organizations. Although TRUCK supports a full spectrum of artistic practices, programming generally focuses on hybrid and emerging forms of contemporary art that situates the work of Calgary artists in a national context. Through the presentation of regional, national and international contemporary art, TRUCK contributes to the development and understanding of contemporary art within the Calgary community.
TRUCK welcomes submissions from artists, collectives, and collaborations practicing in all mediums. TRUCK facilitates exhibitions and projects in three venues: the Main Gallery, the +15 window project, and CAMPER. TRUCK present all of its programming free of charge and open to all members of the public. Our goal is to enrich the cultural landscape of our community.
The Main Gallery Space is programmed through an annual calls for submissions as well as through curated exhibitions. TRUCK hosts nine four-week long exhibitions each year.
The +15 Window Project is located off-site in the Epcor Centre for the Performing Arts on the busy +15 pedway system. Exhibitions in this store front style window are two months long. Submissions are accepted on an ongoing basis.
CAMPER is TRUCK's Contemporary Art
Mobile Public Exhibition Rig. Submissions are accepted based on special calls for submissions throughout the year.
