Mission Statement
Established for almost 100 years, the work of the YWCA of Banff builds a healthy community by helping to stop domestic violence, providing affordable housing and by serving people at critical turning points.
Description
The YWCA of Banff works with women, children and men — no matter their role in domestic violence — to make positive changes to break the pattern of violence and find recovery and wellness. Our priority is safety for all members of the family.
The YWCA Banff provides counseling services, a shelter for women and children fleeing domestic violence and works within local schools to encourage healthy relationships from a young age. When women and children live in fear, it impacts our entire community.
The second area of focus is Affordable Housing. Lack of affordable housing in the Bow Valley is a social and economic issue that affects everyone in the community. The YWCA of Banff is one of the few facilities in the area offering short-term accommodation for entry level service workers.
In 2008 we added 42 new rooms of affordable permanent accommodation for young industry workers in Banff, enabling us to provide 125 people with safe, affordable accommodation.
