To provide Canada with a theatre of outward-looking, cross-cultural fusion. To bring the latest in world theatre influences to Toronto by using international design and rehearsal techniques, scripts or guest artists.

Mission & Context
Volcano is a theatre of ideas: ideas regarding formal experimentation; ideas regarding subject matter relevant to today’s world. Volcano attempts to build a theatre in Toronto that is modern – that deals with trends in world theatre practice; that deals with race, politics, history – all the ingredients that make up the human condition right now; and all the currents present in modern day Canada.

Description

Volcano is a Dora and Chalmers award-winning, internationally acclaimed experimental theatre company based in Toronto. Volcano’s productions draw on various media and various theatre traditions to examine established texts in a novel way, or to create original works. Volcano has been a leading contributor to the Toronto independent theatre scene since its founding in 1994 by Artistic Director Ross Manson.
