Mission Statement
The GCC Mission is to:
-Foster greater understanding and appreciation for the ecological, social, economic and cultural importance of the grasslands throughout BC
-Promote stewardship and sustainable management practices that will ensure the long-term health of BC’s grasslands
-Promote the conservation of representative grassland ecosystems, species at risk and their habitats
Description
The GCC was created to increase awareness and appreciation for BC's rare and beautiful grassland ecosystems, to work with land managers to achieve sustainable management practices and to implement proactive projects that will ensure the conservation and stewardship of BC's grasslands.
Increasing pressures from urban expansion, subdivision and development, abusive recreation, invasive weeds, forest encroachment and inappropriate land management practices threaten the long term sustainability of our grasslands. Relative to other regions of Canada where most of the grasslands have been lost, BC still has an opportunity to manage and conserve our valuable grassland heritage.
