COBA, Collective of Black Artists is dedicated to creating and presenting the finest traditions in dance and music that celebrate and reflect an Africanist aesthetic.

MISSION
Our mission is to preserve the cultural traditions of Africa and the African Diaspora through education, research and public performance.

As one of the few pure voices in African and African Diasporic dance culture, COBA has been preserving and innovating on Africanist movement aesthetics for sisteen years. COBA also has the notable distinction of being the only company in Canada with a specialized training method - A-Feeree - developed in the 21st century.

Description

COBA (Collective Of Black Artists) is the only professional performance company in Canada dedicated to the preservation of the cultural traditions of Africa and the African Diaspora.

The company presents traditional West African dance, music and folklore; authentic Caribbean indigenous dance, music and rituals; and contemporary works that innovate on African movement aesthetics and express modern social themes.

Rooted in African and Caribbean traditions, COBA’s highly-spirited repertoire illuminates the beauty and spirituality of African and Caribbean dance, and has an inherent universal appeal. Storytelling, music and drama are interwoven with dance in order to share life wisdom with audiences and future generations.

COBA is a fore-runner in dance education. The Collective offers dance classes, lecture demonstrations, workshop seminars, and professional training opportunities, specializing in African and the African Diaspora dance culture and music.
