What is the CanadaHelps Great Canadian Giving Challenge?
The CanadaHelps Great Canadian Giving Challenge is a challenge to get Canadians more involved in charitable giving. Every Canadian is challenged to set up a GivingPage and raise funds for any registered Canadian charity of their choice. To excite and inspire people to raise more funds, cash prizes will be awarded to the chosen charity for the GivingPages that raise the most funds and attract the highest number of donors through their GivingPage.
How to do I join the CanadaHelps Great Canadian Giving Challenge?
To join the CanadaHelps Great Canadian Giving Challenge, simply click here to set up your GivingPage between November 23rd and December 20th. Once you’ve set up your page, start promoting it to everyone: friends, family, colleagues. Check for tips on how to win the Giving Challenge in the Rise to the Top section, and check the In The Lead section frequently to see if you’re winning! Next, tell your friends to join the challenge too, and see if you can beat them at raising funds!
How long does the CanadaHelps Great Canadian Giving Challenge last?
The challenge opens on November 23rd – set up your GivingPage starting on November 23rd to be entered into the Giving Challenge. It closes December 20th at 12 noon. Only GivingPages set up on November 23rd onwards will be part of the challenge, but you can start informing your networks and planning your strategy today!
Which charities can I raise funds for?
You can raise funds for any registered Canadian charity – it’s your choice. Simply select your favourite cause when setting up your page and get started.
When are the winning charities announced?
The winning charities will be announced by CanadaHelps on December 21st.
Where do I find out if I’m a winner of the Giving Challenge?
The top 10 GivingPages in each category ($ raised, # of donations) will be updated daily here. Check back often to see how you’re doing!
I’m having trouble setting up my GivingPage, who do I contact?
Please have a look at the GivingPage FAQ section or contact us at info@canadahelps.org with your questions. We will answer your email quickly!
Is my GivingPage automatically entered into the CanadaHelps Great Canadian Giving Challenge?
When you set up your GivingPage, click the “Yes, I want my GivingPage to be part of the Giving Challenge” button to join the challenge. You can click no if you would like to fundraise without joining the challenge.
Do the people who give through my GivingPage get a tax receipt?
Yes, everyone who donates through your GivingPage will instantly receive an electronic tax receipt by email.
Is the Giving Challenge available in French?
Not currently. Although you can set up a GivingPage and connect with your friends, the process will be in English. CanadaHelps is running the Great Canadian Giving Challenge this year to gain experience and see how it works. Next year, we will offer the full challenge in French as well. However, any registered Canadian charity can still win a prize (whether English or French).

How do we win the prizes?
Promote the CanadaHelps Great Canadian Giving Challenge to your network of supporters and encourage them to get involved. Include details about the Giving Challenge in all of your upcoming donor communication: newsletters, mailouts, emails and on your website.
How do I encourage people to join the Great Canadian Giving Challenge?
Visit the Rise to the Top section for ideas and suggestions for getting people involved. You’ll also find logos and text to add to your website and e-newsletter.
How do I find out if our charity is winning?
During the Giving Challenge (November 23rd – December 20th), check the In the Lead page to find out if any GivingPages raising funds for your charity are in the top 10. The In the Lead page will be updated daily with the leaders. Winning charities will be announced and contacted on December 21st.
I want to get my company involved – how can we participate in the CanadaHelps Great Canadian Giving Challenge?
That’s great! You can get your company involved in a number of ways: let your employees know about the Giving Challenge and ask them to set up a GivingPage, or set up a page per department. You can then have different employees or departments compete to raise the most funds. Or, set up a GivingPage for your company and ask your employees, customers and friends to donate – and compete against other businesses in your neighbourhood to raise the most funds for your charity of choice.
