About LIONS FOUNDATION OF CANADA
Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides is a national charity based in Oakville, Ontario where Dog Guides are trained to assist people with physical or medical disabilities. The seven Dog Guide programs are:
- Canine Vision: for people who are blind or visually impaired
- Hearing: for people who are deaf or hard-of-hearing
- Service: for people who have a physical disability
- Seizure Response: for people who have epilepsy
- Autism Assistance: for children who have autism spectrum disorder
- Diabetes Alert: for people who have diabetes with hypoglycemic unawareness
- Facility Support: for use by professional agencies with individuals in traumatic situations
Each Dog Guide costs approximately $35,000 to raise and train yet they are provided at no cost to qualified applicants from across the country. Lions Foundation of Canada receives no government funding so it relies entirely on the support of donations and fundraising events.
