The Canadian Council for Refugees is a non-profit umbrella organization committed to the rights and protection of refugees in Canada and around the world and to the settlement of refugees and immigrants in Canada. The membership is made up of organizations involved in the settlement, sponsorship and protection of refugees and immigrants. The Council serves the networking, information-exchange and advocacy needs of its membership.
For 35 years, the CCR has been the national voice on refugee protection and newcomer settlement in Canada, educating the public and promoting policies and programs that respect the rights of refugees and immigrants.
With a membership of over 170 organizations serving refugees and immigrants, the CCR provides a place where individuals concerned about protecting refugees and supporting newcomers can respond to challenges in solidarity.
Through policy-analysis, research, public education, networking opportunities, and advocacy through media and government relations, we are active on a range of important issues including:
Barriers to family reunification
Delays in processing of privately sponsored refugees
Trafficking of women and girls
