Recreation and leisure programs were identified in 'The COVID 19 Disability Study', as one of the four greatest unmet needs for Candians living with a disability. As an organization we are responding to mental and physical health concerns, through meeting one the greatest unmet needs for a vulnerable population. Our adaptive recreation and leisure programs, also provide much needed social connection for our clients. Through the use of adaptive equipment, ingenuity and teamwork we make outdoor adventures accessible to people of all abilities, positively impacting their health quality of life and wellbeing. Providing participants and volunteers with opportunities to spend time in nature, try new activities, develop skills, and create meaningful social connections, helps individuals develop independence, healthy coping skills, and resilience. Our programs contribute to health and well-being through various phases of life. For example, we can provide opportunities for kids with disabilities to be included, and experience meaningful social interaction from a young age, laying a foundation for a lifetime of healthy living, or we might provide the first opportunity for someone after an injury to return to an activity they used to love, supporting their physical and mental recovery from trauma. We currently offer Adaptive Hiking, Adaptive Yoga, Adaptive Paddling and Adaptive Fishing programs from shore, kayak or canoe. We have a variety of adaptive equipment that helps us make these activities accessible to people of all abilities. For hiking we have an all-terrain wheelchair and a TrailRider which can make even the most rugged mountain trails accessible to wheelchair users, with the right team. For paddling we have fully adapted kayaks and a canoe, with outriggers for additional stability and specialized seating with full lateral support. We also have various aids to assist with gripping and moving a kayak paddle. For fishing we have various gripping aids and an electric rod/reel that allows the user to reel in a fish at the push of a button, stomp of the foot, flick of the head or sip of a straw. Their mandate is to promote their interests and defend their rights. This organization oversees the project Habitations Hestia. In April 2014, is the creation of Habitations Hestia. Their mission is to provide affordable housing and related installations adapted to the benefits of people with physical and intellectual limitations, and then people who have or have had mental health problems or loss of autonomy for promote independence, stability and social inclusion.</p>\r\n<p>In addition, we want to : promote community life within the building and the management of the life of the medium by its tenants; break isolation; improve their living conditions; negotiate partnerships with government and community organizations to provide services to users of the organization; work with private and public organizations; develop therapeutic activities; be a place of affiliation and belonging that helps maintain housing; create an environment that contributes to the establishment of a positive social network, and offer guidance and support to enhance the ability to live independently housing.</p>\r\n<p><b><b>The project and services</b></b></p>\r\n<p>Here community support services currently provided and defined :</p>\r\n<p>individual coaching (management of the lease, development of human capacities with public services); crisis intervention; management of conflicts between tenants; small group activities; community projects; Community Kitchen; animation of the living environment (management of the code of life, committees) and workshops on relationships, self-esteem.</p>\r\n<p><b><b>Social utility project</b></b></p>\r\n<p>The study on community housing in the MRC of Coaticook, conducted in June 2013, shows that very few homes are suitable for people with a disability. For some, this is a challenge to stay here because people are concerned, in most cases, with low-income. Some units are partially adapted in Coaticook, especially two homes in the Coopérative d'Habitation des Pins, but rents are too high or the ability to pay of these people. The life project of Habitations Hestia is in the spirit of the right to housing and the law ensuring the rights of disabled people for achieving scholar, professional and social integration. It is well suited to provide housing for all types of physical and intellectual limitations.</p>\r\n<p><b><b>Where will your contributions</b></b></p>\r\n<p>In June 2016, Habitations Hestia foresees the start of construction of the housing project, to be located near the center of Coaticook. Your donations will help the first phase of the project which totals 20 new apartments suitable 31/2 and 41/2 rooms in a building.</p>\r\n<p>Donations will help the construction of this green building. The funding will help build a place to recharge and wash four-carrier, a common room and the future offices of the Association of Disabled Persons of the MRC of Coaticook. Thus, the APHC+ will be able to assume the administration of the building.</p>\r\n<p>The money raised will also go into the purchase of various building components for housing (counter, shower, toilet, wider door frames, ramps, power doors, etc.) suitable for the disabled. Elles ont pour mission d'offrir des logements à prix abordables ainsi que des insatallations connexes adaptées aux bénéfices de personnes ayant des limitations physiques et intellectuelles, et ensuite, de personnes ayant ou ayant eu des problèmes de santé mentale ou en perte d'autonomie pour favoriser l'autonomie, la stabilité et l'insertion sociale.</p>\r\n<p>De plus, nous voulons : favoriser la vie communautaire au sein de l'immeuble et la prise en charge de la vie du milieu par ses locataires; briser l'isolement; améliorer leurs conditions de vie; négocier des partenariats avec des organismes gouvernementaux et communautaires pour offrir des services aux usagers et usagères de l'organisme; travailler en collaboration avec les organismes privés et publics; développer des activités thérapeutiques; constituer un lieu d'affiliation et d'appartenance qui favorise le maintien en logement; créer un milieu de vie qui contribue à l'établissement d'un réseau social positif, et offrir un accompagnement et un support afin d'accroître la capacité à vivre en logement de façon autonome.</p>\r\n<p><b>Le projet et ses services</b></p>\r\n<p>Voici les services de soutien communautaire actuellement prévus et définis :</p>\r\n<p>accompagnement individuel (gestion du bail, développement des capacités de la personne auprès des services publics); intervention en situation de crise; gestion des conflits entre les locataires; activités en petits groupes; projets communautaires; cuisine communautaire; animation du milieu de vie (gestion du code de vie, comités), et ateliers sur les relations, la maîtrise de soi, les habiletés sociales et de connaissance de soi.</p>\r\n<p><b>L'utilité sociale du projet</b></p>\r\n<p>L'étude sur le logement communautaire dans la MRC de Coaticook, effectuée en juin 2013, démontre que très peu de logements sont adaptés pour les personnes vivant avec une limitation fonctionnelle. Pour certains, cette situation représente un défi pour se loger puisque les personnes ici concernées sont, dans la majorité des cas, à faible revenu. Quelques logements sont partiellement adaptés dans la ville de Coaticook, en particulier deux logements dans la Coopérative d'Habitation des Pins, mais les loyers sont à coûts trop élevés pour la capacité de payer de ces personnes. Le projet de vie d'Habitations Hestia s'inscrit dans l'esprit du droit au logement et de la loi assurant l'exercice des droits des personnes handicapées en vue de leur intégration scolaire, professionnelle et sociale. Il s'agit ainsi d'offrir des logements adaptés pour tous les types de limitations physiques et intellectuelles.</p>\r\n<p><b>Où iront vos contributions</b></p>\r\n<p>C'est en juin 2016 qu'Habitations Hestia prévoit le début de la construction du projet immobilier, qui sera situé près du centre-ville de Coaticook. Vos dons aideront donc à la première phase de ce projet qui totalise 20 appartements adaptés neufs de 31/2 et 41/2 pièces dans un immeuble.</p>\r\n<p>Les dons aideront à la construction de cet immeuble écologique. Le financement aidera à bâtir un endroit pour recharger et laver les quadri-porteurs, une salle commune ainsi que les futurs bureaux de l'Association des personnes handicapées de la MRC de Coaticook. Ainsi, l'APHC+ sera en mesure d'assumer la gestion administrative du bâtiment.</p>\r\n<p>L'argent amassé ira également dans l'achat de divers éléments de construction pour les logements (comptoir, douche, toilette, cadres de portes plus larges, rampes d'accès, portes électriques, etc.) adaptés pour les personnes handicapées.
