"<p><strong>HOW WE GOT STARTED</strong></p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><span>5N2, a Canadian registered charity, was founded by Seema David in 2013. Seema immigrated to Canada in 2007 from India and was shocked by the homelessness evident on the streets of Toronto. As Canada’s financial capital, Toronto was supposed to represent a place of opportunity – not hardship. After meeting other recent immigrants struggling to feed their families, Seema was determined to help her new community.</span><span></span></p>\n<p><span>Seema has dedicated her life to ensuring marginalized communities can access fresh, nutritious, and culturally appropriate food support. She started 5N2 serving food </span>out of her church kitchen.</p>\n</div>\n</div>\n</div>\n<div>\n<p><span></span></p>\n</div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><span>This labour of love quickly outgrew the small church kitchen, and she leased a nearby commercial kitchen with the small donations she had. </span><span></span></p>\n<p><span>Over the last few years, the demand for food support and the number of families facing food insecurity has risen dramatically. The current inflation and cost-of-living crisis are affecting our community’s most vulnerable, and 5N2 is working hard to ensure that no one goes hungry in Scarborough and the GTA.</span></p>\n<p><span>Today, 5N2 distributes over 4,200 free meals and grocery supports each week, through its 14 partnerships to the residents of Scarborough and beyond.</span></p>\n</div>\n</div>\n<p><strong></strong></p>\n<p><strong>WHO WE SERVE</strong></p>\n<p><span>We strive to minimize poverty, hunger and food insecurity in our communities. We work with partner organizations to bring fresh, warm meals to local residents, serving at food banks, shelters, senior’s buildings, drop-in centers and apartment buildings.</span></p>\n<p><strong>5N2 FARMS</strong></p>\n<p><span>In late 2023, 5N2 started a new social enterprise project called </span>5N2 Farms. mission</h2>\r\n<p><span>There are an estimated 262 million children and adolescents around the world who are out of school.</span> More than half of them are girls, and most live in conflict-affected countries and in rural areas. Basic literacy and numeracy are the fundamental tools that will enable girls and women, as well as boys and men, to take hold of their lives and develop solutions adapted to the needs of their communities and country. Research convincingly shows that programs directed to the education of girls are more effective than virtually any other community investment in the developing world. Basic quality education provides girls with access to health and nutrition information for themselves and their family - including helping to prevent the transmission of HIV/AIDS. It provides a safe place to grow as they learn. It gives them the knowledge to provide economic support to their family.</p>\r\n<p><span>Our </span>objective<span> is to support at least two major education-related projects in developing countries every year. Our aim is to reduce gender disparity in school enrolment by ensuring at least half of the students impacted by each project are girls. The Foundation also places huge importance on finding innovative solutions to the problem of out-of-school children.</span></p>\r\n<h2>About our charity</h2>\r\n<p><em><strong>60 million girls</strong></em> is a Montreal-based public foundation <span>dedicated to girls’ education in developing countries. It was e</span>stablished in February 2006 by a group of talented, creative and energetic women who believe strongly in the need to support education for girls in order to create a more just and balanced world. We all give of our time freely as volunteers for this passion of ours. There is no paid staff and we have gratefully benefited from free services and support from many professionals and companies, keeping our administration costs at an absolute minimum. Air cadets also reap the personal benefits of increased self-confidence and physical fitness, learning how to take initiative, and how to make decisions.
