Many ask, “But how can someone participate if they have a disability?” To answer their question, A Life Worth Living (ALWL) shares stories on how people choose to live a life worth living.</p>\r\n<h4><a href=\"https://vimeo.com/530865980/389ffd76d2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>A Video Message from A Life Worth Living</strong></a></h4>\r\n<h3>Our Story:</h3>\r\n<h3><strong>The Need</strong></h3>\r\n<p>In 1994, a young man dealing with an unexpected visual impairment tried to commit suicide. He could accept his loss of vision and the loss of<span> </span><strong>everything</strong><span> </span>he enjoyed – reading, sports, driving and being with his girlfriend. The “kicker” was the loss of his job. His mind was racing with the questions “How can I live this life?” and “How do others live this life?” Because of confidentiality policies and distance he couldn’t be introduced to the people he wanted to meet. His family, friends and teachers asked, “How can we help?” He, and his family, wanted a multimedia resource they could access at any time in the privacy of their own home. Something they could share with others, so they didn’t have to answer questions, as their support networks also wanted answers. He was not the first, nor was he the last, to desperately seek answers but he was the catalyst to the founding of<span> </span><strong>A Life Worth Living</strong>.</p>\r\n<h3><strong>Meeting that Need</strong></h3>\r\n<p>Founded in 1994, The Year of the Family, A Life Worth Living shares life stories of people who live with disabilities, as well as their families, employers and the public through media. We also focus on women and girls to help promote gender equity.</p>\n<p>About A Love of Tennis Inc./Pour L'Amour de Tennis</p>\n<p>We bring our nets, and equipment into areas where there are old basketball courts, or any flat surface where we can set up. We were shocked to find that the majority of kids we tested had physical literacy scores of 25-35%. These kids lacked the basic skills such as throwing, catching , hopping and skipping to have the confidence to play any sports. Through our tennis program we teach basic physical literacy skills, and tennis skills so they can play on a team but also have the self confidence to play any sport for life. It is important as reading and writing. </p>\n<p>The areas we go into are those where the parents have no transportation or resources to take them to a tennis program at the courts. It is changing lives and gives them the self confidence to lead a healthier and happier life. We have also been working with a number of other charities distribute food and snacks.</p>\r\n<p>As many organizations are facing unique and extreme challenges at this time A Loving Spoonful is no different – in March we saw a significant loss in corporate donations and fundraising event revenue. We had to postpone two significant annual fundraising events (planned for April and June) at a loss of approximately $200,000. We diverted our lean staff and resources to the front-lines ensuring our essential service of meal and grocery provision continues while adhering to all physical distancing measures (all of our operations and meal packing happens outside in our parking lot now!) and cleaning protocols to keep staff, volunteers and clients safe.</p>\r\n<h2>About A LOVING SPOONFUL</h2>\r\n<p>A Loving Spoonful is about food, love, hope and compassion. We deliver free, nutritious, medically tailored meals to individuals and families living with HIV in the Metro Vancouver area who are experiencing food insecurity and have a need for nutritional support.</p>\r\n<p>With only about 20% government funding A Loving Spoonful relies on the generosity of the community to raise the remaining 80% of the budget. Each year we are lucky to work with corporate partners, foundations and individuals in order to fundraise to meet the needs of our clients. We hope you will help us too.</p>\r\n<p>Approximately 100,000 meals are provided each year to community members throughout Metro Vancouver, and their dependent families who are experiencing malnutrition, food insecurity, mobility issues and who lack support. These meals are specifically chosen and medically tailored to meet the individual needs of each client. From frozen meals to fresh produce, yogurt, juice, bread and milk we provide a range of much needed, nutritious food to individuals and families.</p>\r\n<p>Every week volunteers pack food for each individual and family.
