What began in 1984 as a small group of friends staging <em>Godspell</em> to celebrate Trinity Lutheran Church’s 150th anniversary has grown into a vibrant, welcoming not-for-profit arts organization and registered Canadian charity, dedicated to enriching our community through the performing arts.</p>\n<p>Every year, hundreds of volunteers of all ages work side-by-side to produce outstanding musicals and plays. From our early years performing in church halls, to transforming the old New Hamburg Arena into the magical Trinity Theatre for large-scale musicals, and the New Hamburg Community Centre upstairs into the Studio Theatre for intimate non-musical productions, TCP has built a reputation for excellence, creativity, and heart.</p>\n<p>Productions like <em>Mary Poppins</em>, <em>Noises Off</em>, <em>The Music Man</em>, <em>Steel Magnolias,</em> <em>The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Matilda, </em>and many more offer more than just entertainment. provide a therapeutic riding program for physically, cognitively and psychologically challenged children and adults using hippotherapy, equine facilitated mental health wellness and adaptive riding. Today, with the help of over 60 volunteers, we conduct a professional, nationally accredited therapeutic riding program on Vancouver Island, with 70 clients attending each week, the majority of who are from marginalized populations.</p>\r\n<p>At CVTRS, we know that the motion of the horses walk simulates the human walk, and that cross body stretching and activities such as learning to guide the horse unassisted is invaluable for the vestibular system. However, it is the hidden benefits of riding a horse that make the biggest difference--not only to our clients, but also to the community of the Comox Valley as a whole. The shared challenges and triumphs of our riders help forge bonds of friendship, as they provide inspiration to each other to continue achieving and establishing new goals for their physical and mental health and fitness. We classify riding as recreational, but it truly is life changing. The bond between human and horse is so powerful, and is only enhanced when the person riding has extra needs. Our riders are able to connect with their horse in a way most of us will never understand. By giving our clients the pride of communicating and partnering with a horse, a sense of worth and dignity is developed, and carried forward into their interactions and contributions to our community.
