Society. It strives to help those living with developmental and other disabilities achieve their hopes for the future through programs that reflect the principles of self-sufficiency, active participation and inclusion.</p>\r\n<p>Sometimes we see the impact of the Foundation’s work through a simple smile and laugh. Other times it reveals itself slowly, as a member of the Garth Homer family begins to call the Centre their ‘home.’ These daily achievements and growth are the measure of our work. </p>\r\n<p>The Garth Homer Foundation works with the Garth Homer Society to help people with developmental disabilities be everything they can be. CARF is a private, non-profit organization that grew out of a need to promote quality programs for people with disabilities. Every three years, CARF surveyors visit us to see if we meet the standards for the employment and community services we provide. </p>\n<p><em>Garth Homer Society was one of the first 100 agencies accredited in BC after accreditation was first required. </em></p>\n<p><strong><em>SERVICES</em><em></em></strong></p>\n<p><strong>Lifelong support through individualized services</strong> Like all of us, people living with cognitive challenges have highly individual and differing needs, hopes, and abilities. And as with all of us, needs, hopes, and abilities shift over the course of a lifetime. With growth and learning, maturity and aging, and changes in health, people change. The goal of the Garth Homer Society is to provide highly individualized services which provide a lifelong continuum of support to people with developmental disabilities, no matter their age, stage of life, or particular challenges. In order to achieve this, our services are divided into three groups of flexible programs:</p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http://www.garthhomersociety.org/services/community-inclusion\">Community Inclusion</a><span> </span>–</strong><span> </span>Aimed at our higher needs clients, those with communication, behavioral or complex care needs, or who often need one-to-one support, these programs encourage the development of social skills and provide a wide range of community inclusion activities. </li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http://www.garthhomersociety.org/services/geriatrics\">Geriatrics</a><span> </span>–</strong><span> </span>Serving older clients, including those with dementia, these programs include health and personal care supports, as well as activities that support cognitive and functional maintenance. In the future we also aim to provide residential care for older adults. </li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"http://www.garthhomersociety.org/services/learning-and-employment\">Learning and Employment</a><span> </span>–</strong><span> </span>Serving individuals with lower support needs, these programs are designed to maximize each person’s potential for independence, inclusion, and employment.</li>\n<li><a href=\"http://www.garthhomersociety.org/services/learning-and-employment\"><strong>Residential Services</strong></a> <strong>–</strong><span> supporting our higher needs clients, those with communication, behavioral or complex care needs, or who often need one-to-one support.</span></li>\n</ul>\n<p>Activities coordinated at the centre and across the community are purposefully selected to meet the individual learning and developmental goals of each of our clients. Our activities provide opportunities for them to participate in and make a difference in the Greater Victoria community– to make a life, a home and a place in the world. We are working toward a service model in which our programs are merely the starting point for diverse daily activities. The Garth Homer Centre will be the accustomed place for clients to arrive each day to hang their coats, keep their lunches, meet their friends and check their daily schedules, before the day’s activities begin. Our programs are available on a part-time or full-time basis, five days a week. CARF est un organisme privé à but non lucratif d’aider a promouvoir des programmes de qualité pour les personnes avec une deficience intellectuelle. Tous les trois ans, les inspecteurs du CARF nous visitent pour voir si nous respectons les normes en matière d'emploi et de services communautaires que nous offrons.</p>\n<p><b></b></p>\n<p>Garth Homer Society a été l'une des 100 premières agences accréditées en Colombie-Britannique.</p>\n<p><b> </b></p>\n<p><b>Soutien de longevite grâce à des services individualisés</b></p>\n<p><b>PRESTATIONS DE SERVICE</b></p>\n<p> Comme nous tous, les personnes qui vivent avec une déficience intellectuelle ont des besoins, des espoirs et des capacités très individuels et différents changent au cours de la vie. Avec la croissance, l'apprentissage, la maturité, le vieillissement, et la santé, les gens face a des changements.</p>\n<p> Notre but à ‘Garth Homer Society’ est de fournir des services hautement individualisés qui permets un continuum de soutien à vie aux personnes ayant une déficience intellectuelle, peu importe leur âge, la période de leur vie ou leurs défis particuliers. Pour ce faire, nos services sont répartis en quatre groupes de programmes flexibles:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>Inclusion communautaire - Destinée à nos clients ayant des besoins plus élevés, à ceux qui ont des besoins particuliers au niveau de la communication, du comportement ou de soins complexes, et qui ont souvent besoin d'un soutien individuel, ces programmes encouragent le développement de compétences sociales et offrent un large éventail d'activités dans notre communautaire.</li>\n<li>Gériatrie - Pour les clients plus âgés, y compris ceux atteints de démence, ces programmes comprennent des soins de santé et des soins personnels, ainsi que des activités qui appuient l'entretien cognitif et fonctionnel. Pour l'avenir, nous viserons également à offrir des soins en résidence aux personnes âgées.</li>\n<li>Apprentissage et emploi - Ces programmes sont conçus pour maximiser le potentiel d'autonomie, et d'inclusion et l’emploie individualize.</li>\n<li>Résidentiel - Pour répondre aux besoins de nos clients ayant des besoins plus élevés, ceux qui ont des besoins au niveaus de la communication, du comportement ou de soins complexes, et qui ont souvent besoin d'un soutien individuel, ces programmes encouragent le développement de compétences sociales et offrent une vaste gamme d'activités dans notre communautaire.</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p>Les activités coordonnées au centre et à travers la communauté sont choisies à dessein pour répondre aux objectifs individuels d'apprentissage et de développement de chacun de nos clients.
