Everyone who wants to sing should have the opportunity to do so! That’s the belief guiding A Joyful Noise, which welcomes singers of all abilities, creating a place for everyone, even for those who think they “can’t” sing. AJN creator Eva Bostrand believes singing is a natural and powerful means of expression that everyone can learn. With no auditions or previous singing experience required to join, AJN provides a safe and supportive space to learn and explore while building musical confidence and skill.
\r\nThere are three AJN choirs, each with its own character, and offering different levels of commitment, skill and experience. Wednesday choir is a nonperforming choir with a focus on choral education, appealing to those looking to learn the fundamentals in a relaxed, fun environment. Monday choir members continue to learn and build confidence as choral singers, and will share what they have learned by performing in formal concerts and outreach performances. Thursday choir singers explore more challenging repertoire and perform in several formal concerts and outreach concerts. There is a place for everyone in these welcoming and inclusive groups. Financial hardship need not be a barrier to participation, as A Joyful Noise provides a discretionary reduced registration fee and bursaries may be available through AJN’s “Geoff Fund”.

Many ask, “But how can someone participate if they have a disability?” To answer their question, A Life Worth Living (ALWL) shares stories on how people choose to live a life worth living.
\r\nIn 1994, a young man dealing with an unexpected visual impairment tried to commit suicide. He could accept his loss of vision and the loss of everything he enjoyed – reading, sports, driving and being with his girlfriend. The “kicker” was the loss of his job. His mind was racing with the questions “How can I live this life?” and “How do others live this life?” Because of confidentiality policies and distance he couldn’t be introduced to the people he wanted to meet. His family, friends and teachers asked, “How can we help?” He, and his family, wanted a multimedia resource they could access at any time in the privacy of their own home. Something they could share with others, so they didn’t have to answer questions, as their support networks also wanted answers. He was not the first, nor was he the last, to desperately seek answers but he was the catalyst to the founding of A Life Worth Living.
\r\nFounded in 1994, The Year of the Family, A Life Worth Living shares life stories of people who live with disabilities, as well as their families, employers and the public through media. These personal experiences offer life-changing answers to questions.
\r\nThat A Life Worth Living’s blending of knowledge and theory with creative experience offers hope, inspiration, and practical guidance.
\r\nThat everyone, including people with disabilities, actively participates together in building a fully inclusive society.
\r\nOur Mission
\nA Love of Tennis is a national charity dedicated to providing inclusive and accessible tennis programming for all.
\nIt empowers adult and child participants to be active through tennis, which in turn builds character and develops life enhancing values. It also provides programs for women and girls to help promote gender equity.
\nAbout A Love of Tennis Inc./Pour L'Amour de Tennis
\nTo give children access to free tennis programming, we use two dedicated facilities. One belonging to Hillcrest Highschool (600 Smyth Rd.), which provide four hard courts, and another at Ridgemont Highschool (2597 Alta Vista Dr.), which have two.
\nHowever, there are areas where parents do not have the resources or the access to transportation to bring their kids to tennis courts. So, to give all kids the chance to try out the sport for free, we bring our nets and equipment onto any flat surface we can find, like old basketball courts for example.
\nFurthermore, we were shocked to find the majority of kids we encounter have physical literacy scores of only 25-35%. Many kids lack the basics, such as throwing, catching, hopping and skipping, which interferes with their confidence to play sports. Through our tennis programming, we teach basic physical literacy and tennis skills. That way, children learn to play tennis, either against one another or on a team, and most importantly, they develop the self confidence to play any sport for life!

We had to postpone two significant annual fundraising events (planned for April and June) at a loss of approximately $200,000. We diverted our lean staff and resources to the front-lines ensuring our essential service of meal and grocery provision continues while adhering to all physical distancing measures (all of our operations and meal packing happens outside in our parking lot now!) and cleaning protocols to keep staff, volunteers and clients safe.
\r\nA Loving Spoonful is about food, love, hope and compassion. We deliver free, nutritious, medically tailored meals to individuals and families living with HIV in the Metro Vancouver area who are experiencing food insecurity and have a need for nutritional support.
\r\nWith only about 20% government funding A Loving Spoonful relies on the generosity of the community to raise the remaining 80% of the budget. Each year we are lucky to work with corporate partners, foundations and individuals in order to fundraise to meet the needs of our clients. We hope you will help us too.
\r\nApproximately 100,000 meals are provided each year to community members throughout Metro Vancouver, and their dependent families who are experiencing malnutrition, food insecurity, mobility issues and who lack support. These meals are specifically chosen and medically tailored to meet the individual needs of each client. From frozen meals to fresh produce, yogurt, juice, bread and milk we provide a range of much needed, nutritious food to individuals and families.
