The mission of the Canadian Anesthesia Research Foundation (CARF) is to provide sustainable funding for Canadian research in anesthesia, pain and perioperative medicine.
\r\nAs a result of diminishing funds for anesthesia-related research from provincial and national agencies through the 1970’s and 1980’s, the Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society (CAS) identified that new funding for focused laboratory and clinically-based research would be essential in advancing the knowledge base in the field of anesthesia. Only in this manner would continuous improvements in clinical anesthesia, perioperative medicine, and acute and chronic pain management be ensured.
\r\nAs a result, CARF was founded in 1979 to administer research funds, and provide support to researchers in anesthesia who are members of the CAS. The funding framework allowed the CAS to launch the Society’s Research Grants Program in 1985, with the first annual CAS Research Award being presented to Dr. Howard Nathan for his work on “Anesthetics and Myocardial Ischemia”.
\r\nToday, the Program administers almost $200,000 annually in the following target areas:
\r\nCAPE - Canadian Association for Prenatal Education - is a branch of OMAEP in association with the IDEAL Society, a non profit organization. CAPE supports the 8 millennium goals advocated by the United Nations, with a focus on increasing worldwide maternal health and prenatal life. In harmony with this goal, CAPE is dedicated to providing support to pregnant women and families through educational activities. We offer free workshops on prenatal and post-natal health and education on a continuous basis, and are working towards creating the infrastructure to provide short-term lodging to pregnant couples who wish to benefit from a healthy environment.

\r\nWe are here to advance and assist education, research and knowledge of the medical condition described as Williams Syndrome and to participate in research projects and efforts to assist those with WS in achieving full status in the community such as schools, employment and housing.
