\r\nOur mandate is to commemorate the oldest schoolhouse in Toronto and the man responsible for its existence, Enoch Turner. Our goal is to help the Ontario Heritage Trust preserve and program the 1848 Schoolhouse, so that it continues to inspire thousands of visitors every year with the story of the beginnings of universal public education.
\r\nEstablished and funded in 1848 by local brewer, churchman and philanthropist Enoch Turner, Toronto's first free school taught the three Rs to the children of Corktown, poor English and Irish immigrants, from 1849-1859.
\r\nArchitect Eric Arthur and local citizens saved and restored it as an historic site museum in 1972. The Enoch Turner Schoolhouse Foundation (1971) owned and operated the buildling until 2008. It was designated a heritage building under the Ontario Heritage Act in 2000 for its history and architecture. The Ontario Heritage Trust now owns and operates it, running a school program. Through role playing students experience a Victorian school day with wooden desks, slates, and discipline while wearing Eton collars and pinafores. The Trust supports free visits for schoolchildren who cannot affort the admission fee as well as hosting lectures, walking tours, and special events in partnership with the OHT. A heritage resource and a living history museum, the building is available for weddings and social events.

\nAbout Epilepsy Association of the Maritimes
\nThe Epilepsy Association of the Maritimes (EAM), formerly Epilepsy Association of Nova Scotia, is a registered charity founded in 1980. EAM is the only epilepsy organization in the Maritimes who serves persons living with epilepsy, their families and their communities. EAM provides Epilepsy Awareness and Seizure First Aid Education to schools (all levels), First Responders, Hospitals, Nursing Homes, Small Options, Recreational and Community Groups; we offer advocacy, navigation with healthcare and government agencies; invited guest speaking engagements; programming and a quarterly newsletter.
\nIn 2008, EAM was invited into a school to provide education to then 9-year old Cassidy Megan and her class. Encouraged by her classmates' positive reception of the information, Cassidy disclosed to her peers they did in fact know someone with epilepsy; that she had epilepsy. Cassidy and her mom approached EAM with the goal of creating one day where all persons living with epilepsy would not feel isolated or alone and also have an opportunity to network with others who shared this very common condition. Thus Purple Day, March 26th was founded by Cassidy Megan and EAM is the Founding Agency. This is now a global campaign in more than 85 countries and supporters around the world wear purple to raise epilepsy awareness. On June 28, 2012, it was passed in the House of Commons that going forward, March 26th would officially be recognized in Canada as Purple Day. Canada is the only country to have Purple Day officially acknowledged.

\nÀ propos Association Maritime de l'épilepsie
\nAssociation Maritime de l'épilepsie (EAM), anciennement Nouvelle Ecosse de l'épilepsie , est un organisme de bienfaisance enregistré fondé en 1980. EAM est la seule organisation d'épilepsie dans les Maritimes qui dessert les personnes atteintes d'épilepsie, leurs familles et leurs communautés. Le MAE offre de l'éducation aux soins de l'épilepsie et des crises d'accès aux écoles (tous les niveaux), aux premiers intervenants, aux hôpitaux, aux maisons de soins infirmiers, aux petites options, aux groupes récréatifs et communautaires; nous offrons la défense des intérêts, la navigation auprès des organismes de santé et gouvernementaux; invités à prendre la parole; programmation et un bulletin trimestriel.
\nEn 2008, EAM a été invitée dans une école pour offrir une éducation à Cassidy Megan, alors âgée de 9 ans, et à sa classe. Encouragée par la réception positive de l'information par ses camarades de classe, Cassidy a révélé à ses pairs qu'ils connaissaient en fait quelqu'un épileptique; qu'elle avait l'épilepsie. Cassidy et sa mère ont approché EAM dans le but de créer un jour où toutes les personnes vivant avec l'épilepsie ne se sentiraient pas isolées ou seules et auraient également l'occasion de réseauter avec d'autres personnes qui partageaient cette condition très commune. Ainsi Purple Day, Mars 26e a été fondée par Cassidy Megan et EAM est l'agence fondatrice. Il s'agit maintenant d'une campagne mondiale dans plus de 85 pays et les partisans du monde entier portent du violet pour sensibiliser la population à l'épilepsie. Le 28 juin 2012, il a été adopté à la Chambre des communes qu'à l'avenir, le 26 mars serait officiellement reconnu au Canada comme la Journée pourpre. Le Canada est le seul pays à avoir officiellement reconnu la Journée pourpre.

\nThe equality effect uses human rights law to make the rights of girls & women real, so that they can be safe from sexual violence, get an education, and fulfill their economic potential.
\nAbout the equality effect
\nThe equality effect works with teams of international lawyers, along with grassroots social service partners, to address gender inequality and achieve concrete change in the lives of girls. We believe that every girl deserves to be free from violence and discrimination, so that she can pursue an education, choose who and when she marries and follow her dreams. Many countries have laws on the books to protect girls and women from violence and discrimination. However, the fact is that these very laws are often not enforced. The equality effect supports its local legal partners by conducting research, collecting evidence, and developing concrete legal strategies to address the disadvantage experienced by girls/women, e.g.: law reform, public legal education, test case litigation.
