\nWomen’s House provides a safe haven for victims/survivors, knowing that ending violence is a community responsibility. We will work towards ending violence through knowledge, which is power, in order to create change.
\nAbout WOMEN'S HOUSE SERVING BRUCE & GREY
\nWomen's House is a 13 bed residential emergency shelter local to Bruce County with free, confidential in-house and outreach counselling services, as well as toll free crisis and support phone lines (519-396-9655 & 1-800-265-3026) which are answered by a Counsellor 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In addition to the safe shelter and in-house counselling programs, we provide Child Witness Counselling and Community Outreach Counselling to several communities across Bruce & Grey Counties (Chesley, Durham, Hanover, Kincardine, Markdale, Owen Sound, Port Elgin, Southampton, Walkerton and Wiarton). Another program that helps women and children leaving unsafe environments is the Second Stage Program which consists of Transitional Housing units in Wiarton, Port Elgin and Kincardine. These apartment units are geared-to-income and feature a safe and secure environment to allow women to transition comfortably back to their communites after surviving abuse and isolation. Women's House also provides Sexual Assault Counselling and advocacy to both Counties and has a toll-free support line specific to sexual assault 1-866-578-5566.

\r\nWe work with individuals and groups throughout the city who are concerned about their safety and the safety of their children. We work conducting Community Safety Audits during which we audit a space looking at what makes primarily women feel unsafe. We work closely with other community agencies, police, councilors and city staff to ensure that the action plans developed in the audit are acted on.
\r\nWISE provides Personal Safety Workshops to numerous diverse groups in the city of Ottawa such as: youth groups, seniors, women with disabilities, new immigrants, high school students, health and social service workers in rural and urban locations and in particular, women living with or fleeing abuse in the home.
\r\nOur youth workshops help teens understand the cycle of violence so that they might develop strategies that will help them form healthy relationships early in life; while our senior’s workshops help the elderly learn strategies that reduce isolation, enhance assertiveness, and incorporate safety techniques that can be applied in the context of health concerns and reduced strength.
\r\nOur workshops for women living with violence present specific information that will help vulnerable women maximize their safety while living in difficult situations or to keep themselves and their children safe once they leave.
\r\nAnother service offered by WISE is working with city staff on capital projects to provide consultative services/feedback on design or retrofit. In addition, WISE is an active partner in the women’s network, working with other groups and coalitions such as the City for All Women Initiative, the Step It Up Campaign and the Ottawa Coalition to End Violence Against Women.
\r\nWISE, as part of our work in the women’s network of organizations, collaborates as an integral organizer of the public education events such as: Take Back the Night, International Women’s Day Celebrations, The Clothes Line Project, and the December 6 Vigil.

\nThe annual World Day of Prayer movement for peace and reconciliation is coordinated by the Women's Inter-Church Council of Canada. Through Grant Programs, WICC assists vulnerable women and children by supporting grassroots work in Canada and worldwide. We are also dedicated to ending gender-based violence.
