\r\nWe are a small but mighty charity that empowers youth to build their communities through volunteer and leadership programs. Our programs build confidence, leadership, social connections, and life skills that support resilience, mental health, and employability. At Youth Central, youth take the reins, working shoulder to shoulder with staff to ensure our programs are relevant, inclusive, and accessible.
\r\nEach year, we engage over 2,200 Calgary youth (ages 12–18), with 35% being newcomers to Canada and 74% racialized. Our participants include high achievers alongside those facing financial hardship, mental health challenges, or justice system involvement. The beauty of our programs is that youth learn as much from each other as they do from us.

\r\nOur vision... We have a simple vision, to see youth grow in a personal relationship with Jesus. We believe that we can accomplish this vision by investing our lives in the lives of others and our communities throughout the world! We see God's gracious hand of favor enabling us to plant youth churches in the nations of the world!
\r\nWe will accomplish this by holding weekly services, by interacting in various kinds of small group and team settings, by engaging in activities that bless the community and by committing ourselves to loving one another and encouraging one another through the circumstances of life. We will walk all this out in integrity and prayerfully following where JC will lead us.

\r\nBy providing timely and effective prevention and intervention services to children and youth ages 6 – 18, Youth Diversion seeks to hold youth accountable for their actions while offering opportunities for them to address underlying issues contributing to their at-risk behaviour. Programs and services focus on assisting youth to develop self-respect, responsibility and appropriate problem-solving skills while empowering young boys and girls to create, maintain, and improve upon their decision-making in a positive way.
\r\nYouth Diversion offers two service deliveries - Youth Justice and Youth Outreach. Youth Justice works with youth who have been afforded a second chance to learn from their mistakes by the police or courts. Youth Outreach is a preventative strategy for youth who are exhibiting at-risk behaviours. Addressed areas of concern are decision-making, communication, peer pressure, healthy relationships, consent, sexting, respect, bullying, sextortion and legal consequences.
\r\nThrough the Outreach Program, Youth Diversion provided outreach to over 73,000 youth in 2022 through educational and preventative presentations on topics such as online safety, human trafficking, bullying and understanding differences (i.e. addressing bias, hate and stereotypes).
\r\nYouth Diversion also provides a workshop for young adults with intellectual disabilities educating participants about the pitfalls of the online world.

Helping youth over come challenges by:

\r\nYouth Diversion has and continues to help youth and families in the Kingston Frontenac Lennox and Addington Counties for 50 years. Youth Diversion helps youth overcome challenges by: Providing prevention, intervention and educational services that divert youth from risk and support their ability to thrive.. Each year we help more than a 3000 children and youth through our 5 evidence informed programs such as addictions services, educational supports, mentoring and youth justice. At about an average cost of $2.00 a day for a youth to participate in any of our programs, any opportunity we get to stretch funding dollars and recognize cost savings all contribute to the efforts to help youth overcome challenges.

The first steps towards realizing these goals began in 2009 with the construction and completion of YEF’s first commercial farm in Herefords, Swaziland. This milestone marked the beginning of YEF’s sustainable business that will provide educational opportunities and a future for Swaziland’s orphans. In 2010, YEF entered the poultry business and established itself as the preeminent supplier of poultry to the Herefords region of Swaziland. Through YEF’s efforts it is hoped that communities can be transformed and leaders can be shaped who will ultimately contribute to the rebuilding of the Swazi Nation. As a social business, YEF will create a much needed source of income for local residents and will work to nurture the development of a future generation of Swazi leaders, business owners, and university graduates; who will be able to aid in the revival of the economy of Swaziland.
\r\n\r\nIn Swaziland, one in three people are living with HIV. Since the first cases were reported in 1986, the virus has spread at an alarming rate and now 38.6% percent of the country’s adult population are infected – the highest HIV prevalence rate worldwide. It has devastated the country. Around 10,000 adults and children died from AIDS in 2007 alone. The impact of Swaziland’s epidemic has been so severe that life expectancy has dropped to just 32 years - the lowest in the world.
\r\n\r\nThe world’s highest HIV prevalence and the increasing number of deaths due to AIDS are having an unprecedented impact on Swaziland. This impact is manifested by rapidly rising poverty, a growing number of orphans, and decreases in the health and productivity of Swaziland’s economy. The effect on rural communities has been particularly brutal.
\r\nYEF will finance education using profits from YEF operated farms. Profits will be used to fund elementary and high school tuition fees for orphans. Tuition fees directed towards a particular student are dependent upon that student’s participation in the program, and will be paid at the beginning of each semester.
\r\n\r\nEach YEF student will be required to maintain a pre-determined level of academic achievement as outlined by the YEF board of directors. Beyond this, students will be expected throughout their tenure in our program to attend once weekly a YEF designed educational course taught at their attending school teaching career planning, basic business skills and community development. The purpose of the YEF educational course is to allow students to learn the steps needed to achieve their dreams following their completion of high school, while ingraining the importance of contributing to the development of their own community in their adult years.
