The Zonta club of Oakville was founded in 1973 and is made up of a small but vibrant group of professional women, that work together to assist women in the Halton community and internationally. The Zonta Club of Oakville is proud of the many service, advocacy and education projects that we have been involved with. Service efforts by our club members help a number of charities through the funds we raise, and we also carry out our own service projects.

To name a few of the chariites we have supported: Wellspring, Halton Women’s Place, Halton Women’s Centre, Sexual Assault and Violence Intervention Services or SAVIS, Home Suite Hope, Foundation for Cancer Wellness (formerly Breast Cancer Support Services), and Kerr Street Ministries. The club’s own service projects consist of birthing kits we assemble and send to African countries through Care Canada. These simple birthing kits assist women while giving birth who do not have immediate access to hospitals and medical services. The club also hosts an annual Mother Daughter event for the member families of Kerr Street Ministries.

Our advocacy efforts have included having a voting member on the National Action Committee on the Status of Women in Ottawa, support the You Are Not Alone program and the Zonta Says No to Violence campaign. Education programs by the club include offering an annual Young Women in Public Affairs Award to local high school students, and scholarships at Sheridan College for women returning to school.

\r\nZoothérapie Quebec is a charity registered with the Canada Revenue Agency. By making a donation, tax deductible, you contribute to the development of pet therapy in Quebec and you can help us continue our mission with sick children, the elderly, people with intellectual disabilities or Spectrum Disorder autism, etc.
\r\nLocated in Montreal, we serve annually over 80 schools or health and social services across the greater Montreal area (children's hospitals, nursing homes, specialized schools and camps, etc.).
\r\nZoothérapie Québec's mission is to promote, develop and provide intervention and prevention programs where the pet is used as an agent of stimulation, motivation and reinforcement with people of all ages and from all conditions.
\r\nZoothérapie Quebec stands out for its professional approach to pet therapy. Through rigorous hiring protocol, we employ psychologists, psycho-educators, special educators, social workers and occupational therapists, who integrate the dog into their practice.
\r\nWe believe in a multidisciplinary approach to pet therapy. Thus, our regular employees meet on a weekly basis to update their knowledge, optimize the use of our clinical tools and discuss difficult intervention cases.
\r\nOur employees are sometimes accompanied by a colleague during the pet therapy activities. We are thus able to replace on short notice an employee who is absent by another one who already knows the environment and customers.
\r\nEach Zootherapie Québec employee participates in the continuing education program of the organization. The workshops address the intervention techniques with our clients, working techniques with the dog, theoretical updates on pet therapy and on our different types of clientele, etc.
\r\nZootherapie Quebec can count on a team of tewnty five dogs to meet the specific needs of its various clienteles. Under the supervision of our canine behavior specialist, each dog is recruited through a rigorous selection and introduction protocol.
\r\nIn addition to benefiting from complete veterinary care and continuous training, our dogs are groomed regularly to ensure our clients an intervention that meets the highest hygiene and safety standards.
\r\nThe large number of dogs that we work with allows us to only keep in service dogs that love their work and adopt safe behavior at all times. Therefore, a dog that shows signs of discomfort, fatigue or stress, is retired quickly. This ensures that all dogs are fully prepared to safely interact with the people we visit.
\r\nWe attach great importance to ethics in the management of our canine team. Our training methods are based on positive reinforcement of desired behaviors rather than punishing undesirable behavior. Each of our employees also benefits from personalized support to optimize the work with the dogs they work with.
\r\nFinally, we are working with more than twnty volunteer families who are taking care of the dogs evenings and weekends. Each of these families helps to improve our interventions, through their involvement and participation in continuous training.

\r\nL’immeuble qui abrite ZooQ a été construit en 1946. Une infiltration d’eau nous a révélé un mur qui se désagrégeait et qui ne soutenait plus rien! La réfection complète du mur d’une trentaine de pieds était incontournable (fondation, mur, revêtement, isolation, finition intérieure-extérieure).

\r\nLes chiens de ZooQ sont vieillissants et une relève devient impérieuse. ZooQ adopte ses chiens des refuges mais l’offre actuelle est plutôt restreinte. Le contexte de la pandémie a fait exploser les coûts d’acquisition d’un chien.
