YAN is a national non-profit youth organization based in Toronto. We produce Forum, a national magazine devoted to getting the voices of young people heard on issues of national and global importance. YAN also organizes Ruckus!, an annual Anti-Racism Conference for Ontario high-school students. The goal of Ruckus! is to critically examine multiculturalism, race and social justice with the realization that youth of colour lack real role models, particularly within the social justice movement. We participate in Youth Week, bringing together young people of various communities to promote youth achievement, activism and volunteerism. Another YAN project is our Resource Action Centre, a library of information for youth people. We have developed resources that include “Fire It Up!”, a compilation of material to help youth get organized and “Keep it Real”, a media literacy manual that links aspects of Hip Hop culture to bigger issues in history, health, human rights, language and sociology.
