CARC is a citizen's organization dedicated to the long term environmental and social well being of northern Canada and its peoples. The organization was born more than thirty years ago as a response to the first Mackenzie Valley pipeline proposal.  Since that time, CARC has been involved in numerous northern issues, from helping negotiate an international treaty on toxic chemicals, to ensuring that Canada's first diamond mines were given the most thorough environmental assessments possible.  CARC supporters include more than 5,000 people from every province, both territories and Nunavut, and from many other countries. Offices are located in Yellowknife and Ottawa. We believe in the application of sustainable development and the precautionary principle.  Our policy and advocacy work is grounded in solid scientific and socioeconomic research and experience.

For 40 years CARC has been devoted to the environmental sustainability, community health and security of the Arctic.   CARC serves Canada's North, a region defined as the land and sea in the Canadian Arctic administered by the Government of Canada, the Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Nunavik (Northern Quebec), and Nunatsiavut (Northern Labrador).
