For the second year, our walkathon and fundraising is supporting sending kids -- kids who otherwise wouldn't have the opportunity -- to summer camp. The United Church of Canada has a long history of camping for kids: with camps across Canada, kids from all denominations are welcomed to a week of fun, friendship, and faith-building. The emphasis is always on building relationships -- with one another, with the environment and social issues, and with their faith. This year, our funds will be split between helping kids in our neighbourhood in Scarborough, and kids from further afield across Ontario.
Our plan is to raise at least $3,000 (most of this comes through direct donations to the church, but Canada Helps is a good way to donate too!). It costs about $500 for a week of camping -- inclusive of transportation, leadership, all meals and snacks, activities, accommodation, and a lifetime of friendships and memories. Last year our target was $2000, and we raised over $5,000! Let's see if we can do it again!!
Please donate generously to give a kid a once-in-a-lifetime gift of camping.
