We need your help no more than ever to stop child abuse.
Child abuse happens in secret and with the isolation resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, not all children are living in homes that are safe. Increased stress on parents is also likely to result in increased incidences of child abuse however, without supportive networks outside of the home, children are not able to tell anyone what is happening. During the Coronavirus restrictions, we are very concerned about the impact of social isolation on children who are at home and may be living in situations that are not safe. Our team is working non-stop during this very difficult period to respond to referrals that come through from the police and children aid societies. Some of the youth we see are in crisis, especially those that are victims of human trafficking and do not always have food or a safe place to stay.
Boost CYAC anticipates that there will be a significant increase in referrals post the COVID-19 pandemic as a result of children being at home where abuse may occur due to isolation and increased stress on parents. We are expecting our referrals to significantly increase and will need an additional trauma therapist to meet this need.
Each year, Boost CYAC provided specialized trauma assessment and therapy to hundreds of children who have been victims of abuse and violence. We anticipate that there will be increased reporting of child abuse once the pandemic is over and those children will need our help. Our team is able to provide specialized trauma assessment and treatment to children and families to help them recover from the impact of abuse and find healthy ways to rebuild their lives.
We want to be there for all children who need us when the current crisis passes.
Thank you for standing strong with us.
