Hi, my name is D/Cst. John Alwyn. In October 2015, I was involved in a life altering incident when I was shot while in the line of duty.

With the support of family, friends and co-workers, I overcame several challenges and continue to progress. Early intervention kept me focused and on the right path throughout my recovery. It’s now time to pay it forward.

This September I will be trekking 19,341’ to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro (Tanzania) and will use this opportunity to raise awareness of OSI’s (Operational Stress Injuries) and PTSD for First Responders.

The 8 day trek to the summit exemplifies the physical and mental challenges we face when overcoming traumatic events.

You can support the cause by graciously making a donation to my choice of charitable organization, Badge of Life Canada, Registered Canadian Charity # 784599698RR0001.

100% of your tax deductible donation will go to Badge of Life Canada, a peer-led charitable volunteer organization committed to supporting first responders who are dealing with psychological injuries diagnosed from service.

Badge of Life Canada has no staff or salaries, allowing for 100% proceeds to be applied directly to their Mission and Programs.

Too many of our first responders have lost their personal battle. Let’s support our colleagues and end the stigma associated to mental health. Help is available…. make the call!

For more information or if you feel up to the challenge and experience of a lifetime, please contact me at john.alwyn@peelpolice.ca or 905 453-2121 ext 2281.

Space is still available to join me for a late September climb.

Thanks for your assistance.

John Alwyn
