You have no doubt heard about the challenges facing the over 1.6 million Indigenous people living in Canada, including child-suicide crisis, low graduation rates and communities suffering third world poverty conditions.
In 2014, Rotarian's initiated an action group to investigate the needs of Canada’s Indigenous Peoples. In agreement, Indigenous people recommended that Rotary focus on education. Education is one of Rotary’s six pillars to build relationships, improve lives, and create a better world in support peace efforts. Rotary already supports education through scholarships, donations, and service projects around the world, so this was a natural fit at home. The result was the launch of HIP (Honouring Indigenous Peoples).
HIP’s programs support Indigenous People in reaching their educational goals by removing obstacles to achieving potential and making available equitable education opportunities. Since 2016, HIP has successfully delivered $1.5+ million in education and wellness supplies.
Please join us to instigate social change for our Indigenous friends. HIP is asking Rotary Clubs to kindly donate a $1000. Your donation gives us the flexibility to rapidly respond in the most effective way to emerging needs. Each $1000 donation will:
- Register a Club/Rotarian as a 2019 member of HIP & Ally to Indigenous People
- Contribute to a bursary with Government match for an Indigenous Student
- Provide books to Indigenous Youth
- Provide a computer for an Indigenous School
- Support transportation & delivery of a Welcome a Box
HIP’s Team thanks you for your contribution.
