2018 Resident Priority Needs List

Campaign Ends Dec. 31, 2018

There are so many ways donors' generosity makes the everyday lives of residents safer, more comfortable and more enjoyable. We always have urgent needs and 2018 is no different.

Included on the list are 25 Hi-Lo beds. The new beds will have an easily adjustable high and low feature, designed specifically for the convenience of the residents. A comfortable and safe bed sounds like a simple request, but it can make a world of difference to the quality of life of seniors.

Your generosity is critical to helping maintain this quality of care throughout 2018 and beyond.

Message from Doug Brousseau, Chair of the Board of Directors

I believe I have the one of the best volunteer positions in the world. As the new Chair of the Board of Directors for the Perley and Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre Foundation, it’s an incredible honour to be able to serve truly great Canadians.

Many of the men and women who live here at the Perley Rideau are Veterans who were there for our country when we needed them most. Others are seniors who built this country into what it is today. They all have my deepest respect and gratitude.

That’s why I joined the Board four years ago. I knew from the first moment I stepped into the Perley Rideau that this was a special kind of place—a place I wanted to be part of.

You see, the Perley Rideau is so much more than a health centre. We’re a home.

We’re a community where seniors and Veterans feel safe, welcomed, comfortable, and valued. Where they can keep their minds and bodies active and engaged through music, arts and crafts, and special outings. And where they receive the individual care they need from our expert, committed, and compassionate medical and nursing staff.

Every time I step into the Perley Rideau I see the impact of your donations on the day-to-day lives of residents. Thank you. Your gifts make a real, tangible difference in the quality of life enjoyed by these great Canadians.

Your generosity is critical to helping maintain this quality of care throughout 2018 and beyond.

I’ve felt the impact of your donations in my own family. My Uncle Benny was a resident at the Perley Rideau until he passed away just a few months ago. He was a Veteran of the Second World War. Uncle Benny lived a long and eventful life but many of those years were also very hard and sometimes quite lonely.

Fortunately, Uncle Benny moved into the Perley Rideau five years ago. And do you know what he said? His five years here were some of the best years of his life!

We’ve got great plans for the coming year, and I hope you’ll be part of them!

In fact, we’ve just announced a new pilot project called SAFE (sub-acute care for frail elderly) that will see us creating 20 new beds for frail, elderly patients currently in acute care beds at The Ottawa Hospital. Your continued support will enable us to provide the specialized care they need in order to make a full recovery. And we’ll be helping to reduce hospital overcrowding in the process—saving precious health care dollars.

Please support today—either as a monthly donor or with a special one-time gift. However you choose to give, your donation will give these great Canadians the best possible quality of life, which is what all seniors and Veterans deserve.

P.S. I’m so grateful for your support of the seniors and Veterans in our care. Please join me and give generously today to help them live life to the fullest. That’s why I donate!
