The Alberta Foster Parent Association owns and operates a beautiful children's retreat about 14 km's NW of Sundre, Alberta. Set in a quiet sanctuary, on the James river, our retreat is a source of pride for us. Our association hosts annual children's summer camps, aboriginal awareness weekends, volunteer appreciation events, and training retreats on site. We offer group rental opportunities to the public to help offset the cost of operating and improving on our camp.
This children's retreat has been maintained mostly in part by our many wonderful volunteers, we are so thankful for them, there's no way we could have accomplished what we have there without them!
We have come a long way at the retreat in adding metal clad siding and metal roof to our main lodge, new epoxy flooring in our dining hall and main entrance, a beautiful new and safe playground for the kids to play, new paint, new windows, new commercial water filtration system, new cabins new sidewalk, new flooring in various areas, newly renovated training rooms, hot water on demand and the list goes on.
Some of the projects we are raising funds for at the children's retreat are:
- Flood prevention: we would like to do as much as possible to increase prevention methods
- Roundhouse: our roundhouse is in need of some structural work and a new roof and some repairs to floof. This is a unique and beautiful building which offers a stage for shows, seating for an audience or can be used as an indoor basketball court. We need to start working to maintain this building.
- Energy Efficient lighting and appliances
We certainly appreciate any support you may be able to give towards our retreat helping us to give children in care a safe, fun place to go to summer camp where they can create long lasting, fun, beautiful memories!
