Support for the Indigenous Community in Toronto
WE HAVE MET OUR MATCH!
We are happy to announce that we have met the match created by a generous Anonymous Family Foundation. Over $50,000 has been raised for the COVID-19 Pandemic Urgent Response Fund in support of Anishnawbe Health Toronto. Chi-Miigwetch to everyone who made monetary and in-kind donations, shared our message and sent words of encouragement to our clients and staff.
There is still a need to support the Health of the Indigenous Community in Toronto during this pandemic. The Indigenous community is one of the most vulnerable in the city of Toronto. High rates of poverty and homelessness are barriers to health in the best of times. Today, a lack of access to nutritious food, compromised immune systems, and chronic health conditions put the community at greater risk. Low-income families will be hit hard by the loss of work & the closing of schools & childcare centres.
As the COVID-19 pandemic is rapidly evolving & urgent priorities are changing over time, Anishnawbe Health's COVID-19 Team will determine the best use of the funds. In the unlikely case that funds remain at the end of the pandemic, remaining funds will be used for highest priority needs of the health centre.
