The ACAS Women’s Program has been instrumental in bringing sexual health education to East and Southeast Asian women in Toronto and the GTA. In the past 5 years, we have reached over 2000 people through workshops, socials, and outreach opportunities. We have been able to provide programming for women and non-binary people on topics like HIV 101, STI 101, Healthy Relationships and consent, and Raising Sexually Healthy Children.
The ACAS women’s program champions as experts and leaders in East and Southeast Asian women’s health issues by hosting our annual women’s health forum called Pillow Talk. In 2017, there was a panel discussion on mental health and resilience among queer Asian women, workshops on healthy relationships, intergenerational conflict resolution skills, and an active hip hop dance workshop. It is an event that many East and Southeast Asian women look forward to every year as we have been able to consistently deliver a high quality event that women can learn skills from in conjunction with leaving with an increase sense of resiliency and confidence.
The Women’s Program aspires to assert itself as an amplifier of East and Southeast Asian women’s voices and needs. We are currently in the strategic planning phase of 2018-2022 and the goals can broadly be divided into four categories: enhancing expertise in serving East and Southeast Asian LGBTQ+ communities and persons living with HIV/AIDS, respond to changing and emerging community needs, innovating our approach in education, outreach, and support, and expanding our geographic locations.
