Atwell Centre: Pregnancy Options Support Halton will be a centre where women and men can come to receive options support surrounding their unexpected pregnancy. In their initial visits, clients will be offered a self – administered medical grade pregnancy test and information regarding their options, which include abortion, adoption and parenting. Clients will also be offered health education that relates their sexual activity, pregnancy as well as the risk of sexually transmitted infections.
Clients meet one-on-one with a client advocate. Atwell Centre client advocates facilitating these sessions are trained staff and volunteers, under the direction of our Client Services Director. Session time is approximately one hour in length. In subsequent visits, clients who choose to parent are offered, prenatal classes.
Through a registered nurse, Atwell Centre will provide pregnancy confirmation through urine pregnancy tests and limited obstetrical ultrasounds in order to confirm pregnancies. A registered nurse will also conduct screening, testing and provide treatment for sexually transmitted infections. These procedures will be under the supervision of an authorizing health care professional such as a local physician or a nurse practitioner and supported by an advisory medical team. All client services will be provided in-house and will also include supplemental health care education for sexually transmitted infections and pregnancy concerns.
