Inside Out For Autism 2019
Inside Out For Autism is about bringing people together to raise funds and promote awareness and acceptance for Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).
We are asking schools, companies and teams to register their event online, to raise funds and awareness in a way that works and matters to them. It could be a car wash, a toonie drive, or a casual day- the options are endless. Then, turn your shirt inside out and make a difference!
Where did Inside Out for Autism come from?
Inside Out for Autism was conceptualized by an autism mom, Jacalyn MacAulay, who thought how wonderful it would be to have a day for children and staff to focus on autism awareness and acceptance. “Being a parent of a child diagnosed with autism, I see every day how important it is to be an advocate for your child and for others living with autism,” says Jacalyn. She is but one of thousands of other moms and dads who feel the same way.
How to participate?
It is so easy and fun! All you need to do register yourself or your team then wear your shirt, top or sweater inside out for the day. Funds raised in your province/territory go towards programs and initiatives that will improve the lives of family, friends and those in the community with autism.
Let people know why you’re wearing your shirt inside out by proudly wearing an Inside Out for Autism sticker. You can also spread the word through social media and by sharing posters about your event. Click here for these materials and more.
Why is this so important?
People with autism are often misunderstood. Really they are just like the rest of us, just different in some ways but certainly not less. This is a great opportunity to bring children, teachers, families and communities together in understanding autism better. It is a FUNdraiser but most importantly it builds much-needed awareness and acceptance.
We hope that you, your school, your company and community will join us in hosting an Inside Out for Autism day and help us spread our message from coast to coast.
