Bird in Motion Tour 2019
AUTISM SOCIETY OF NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR INC.
My name is James Walker and Gadget is a 10 year old Brazilian Caique Parrot. He assists with my emotional needs as I have PTSD and a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) resulting from an automobile accident when I was 19 years old.
We are crossing Canada and using social media to help grow awareness and acceptance of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD); all while raising funds for the Autism Society, Newfoundland & Labrador (ASNL) to support their important work. It promises to be a fundraising adventure.
We plan to leave Calgary on June 1, 2019, travel to Glovertown in NL, and then return to Calgary in September.
My reason for beginning this adventure is personal. I have a 10 year-old son who was diagnosed with ASD when he was just 2 years old; who is currently living in Newfoundland.
Better understanding, awareness and acceptance of ASD is critically important because children with ASD require supports that include behavioural therapy, speech-language pathology and occupational therapy. These are important for a child’s development, but they are costly for the family, too.
I have had the opportunity to work with non-profit organizations in recent years, including Autism Calgary. These organizations helped me learn the skills needed to assist my son with his sensory and emotional needs.
Gadget and I are very grateful for any assistance you may be able to provide with our fundraising adventure.
All donations should only be made through this ‘Canada Helps’ online link.
This ensures an accurate record of all donations and automatically provides tax receipts.
