About BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF YORK
Big Brothers Big Sisters of York is a charitable organization committed to serving those boys and girls who, with some extra attention, can strive to achieve their full potential and grow into adults who will contribute positively to society.
BBBSY runs a variety of Mentoring programs that have been researched and developed to meet the needs of the community we serve; they include our Traditional 1:1 Match, In-School Mentoring, Go Girls! group mentoring and GAME ON for boys.
BBBSY mentoring programs provide a positive role model and adult friendship for at-risk children, most often from low income, single parent or newcomer families struggling to adjust to a new country. Mentoring programs are proven to reduce children's risk of skipping school, violent behaviour, drug & alcohol use, while increasing self confidence and family ties.
With as little as 1 hour per week, adults can make a positive difference in the life of a child.
