In celebration of Canada 150, Boston Terrier Rescue Canada (BTRC) is seeking your help in raising $1,500 to help cover some of the costs of rescuing, rehabilitating and re-homing one special dog named Pumba.
The actual cost of rescuing and rehabilitating Pumba is high ($5,000 and counting), but seeing him happily re-homed will be priceless.
While some of the dogs entering the care of BTRC require minimal training and medical attention, others require much more. Typically, BTRC dogs are placed in volunteer foster homes while they undergo their vetting and initial socialization. But when dogs come to us from shelters, hoarding situations and puppy mills, they arrive abused, ill or untrained, or a combination of all three. They are also terrified -- of everything!
These dogs require months of specialized attention, and there are few available foster homes adequately equipped to take on such a challenge.
This then, was the case with Pumba. Pulled from a shelter, his past unknown, the three-year-old Boston terrier/Mastiff cross was untrained and unsocialized, but he was very LOVING. His hunger for love and for human attention tugged at our heartstrings, and we pledged to do whatever it took to polish this diamond in the rough to doggy perfection.
With no experienced, dedicated foster homes available, we brought him to The Canine Habitat in Perth, ON, where he began a regime of intensive training. Now, a few months later, Pumba is a dog reborn because of their expert care, guidance, and one-on-one attention. He has nearly mastered his new skills and is as loving as ever, so Pumba is ready to find his fur-ever home.
While we search for Pumba’s perfect family, the cost of his room and board at The Canine Habitat continues. In celebration of Canada 150, your gift will make a difference to Pumba. It will mean he can stay where he is happy at The Canine Habitat until BTRC finds his fur-ever home.
