Thanks to the generosity of volunteers and donors, the Bow Valley SPCA has successfully rescued hundreds of cats and dogs—and the work continues every single day! More than 65% of our funding depends on donors like you who provide the funds needed to care for our residents. In return, you have the satisfaction of making an important difference to hundreds of animals and people in the Bow Valley each year.
Our vision is: Make A Difference. Change Lives. Adopt. Love. This year our Annual Fundraising Campaign will focus on "Adopt. Love." Taken together, these words encourage us as individuals to adopt love as a way of life—and we think that is a good thing. Taken separately, they exemplify our belief that adopting a dog or cat will result in a relationship filled with love—your love for the animal and their love for you.
Our fundraising goal this year is $75,000 by December 31, 2019. Help us reach this goal so that we can continue to rescue abandoned dogs and cats, provide medical treatment and rehabilitation where required, and most importantly provide loving, individualized care until they find their forever family.
Donor funding goes directly to the care of the animals, who live in rooms (not cages or kennels). Our save rate hovers at 99% meaning that nearly all of the dogs and cats surrendered to us (over 1600) find their forever homes.
Donations to our charity also provide help to other animal rescue organization in Southern Alberta and beyond. Due to our ability to provide an exceptional quality of life and customized care, we accept dogs and cats that need more individualized attention from larger shelters and rescue groups.
Housing, medical care and rehabilitation are expensive, and we are doing a lot to reduce those costs. In 2018, we logged over 17,000 hours of volunteer time, winning the Canmore Mayor's Award for Volunteer Excellence. The majority of the volunteer hours were dedicated to direct care of the animals. The volunteer commitment allows us to provide a quality of care that is way beyond our financial capacity alone.
Your financial support provides the basis for attracting and engaging dedicated volunteers. This synergy means that the cats and dogs in our care receive the love and attention they need to become great companions. Because of the commitment of our staff and volunteers, the dogs and cats surrendered to us experience a loving and confidence building experience as soon as they arrive at the Carla Cumming Sojonky Adoption Centre.
The Bow Valley SPCA is committed to community involvement. Our animals interact with kids, seniors, and all those in between to provide support at all stages of life. We also educate about compassionate care for all animals so they receive the same level of love they give us. We provide the community with information, presentations, and workshops starting with choosing the right puppy and ending with supporting your dog to be a good canine citizen.
We know this is a busy time of year, and we appreciate your support. Thank you for making a difference, for changing lives, and for adopting love.
