Brant Food For Thought believes that children and youth in Brantford and Brant should have access to the most nutritious foods possible. White milk is more than just a simple drink and can almost be considered a food unto itself.
Eating Well with Canada’s Food Guide recommends that children and youth get a minimum of 3 to 4 servings of milk and milk products daily. Milk plays an important role in an overall balanced diet and provides 16 essential nutrients, such as calcium and Vitamin D, which are important for bone health. According to Eat Right Ontario, to get the equivalent amount of calcium in a 250 ml (1 cup) of milk, an individual would have to consume 1,000 ml or 4 cups of broccoli or 12 slices of whole wheat bread.
Brant Food For Thought strongly believes that fluid white milk provides the most nutritional benefit to children and youth, and that the Milk Program, as part of the overall student nutrition program, will help support students in making healthy food choices.
