Windstorm December 2018 – Fundraising Campaign

BC Forest Discovery Centre takes direct hit.

That was the headline in the Cowichan Valley Citizen on January 4th, following the windstorm on December 20th, 2018.

It is only now that staff have had a chance to assess the major financial loss and extensive physical damage that the Centre received. As most know, the BCFDC is a not for profit museum, an educational facility and fun place to visit. We are so proud to be a part of the North Cowichan Community and are thankful for the support that we receive from our many volunteers and members of the municipality.

With the storm of December 2018, we lost three days of income from our one major annual fundraiser, The Christmas Express, on the three busiest days of the year. That means lost revenue to the Centre operations for the 2019 year and maintenance projects. Of course with the substantial damage to structures and equipment, plus the loss of beautiful trees that need to be replaced, we are left in the position of reaching out and asking for help from our many supporters.

After serious consideration, we decided we needed to begin a Fundraising Campaign to raise money that would go directly to repairing the damage and to replace our lost fundraising income.

We have made many improvements to the Centre over past five years, and added so many more events. We wish to continue offering these and to avoid taking a step backwards by having to cut back on the offering we have for our community and visitors to the Centre.

The BC Forest Discovery Centre would like you to ask you to assist us in our rebuilding by making a personal or corporate donation. As much as we appreciate financial donations, you can also assist by becoming a part of our family with the purchase of a membership, a family membership, or a membership for your business. It all helps us rebuild!

Just know, that the BC Forest Discovery Centre will continue to operate, bring our regions rich forestry history to locals and tourists, educate on its future, and create great family events and memories. Together, with your help, we can make 2019 an even better year for all of us!

Thank you from all of us at the BC Forest Discovery Centre. From the management, staff, volunteers, our visitors, and of course you, our loyal supporters.
