For three summers, the Youth Achievement Centre, BYTE - Empowering Youth Society, Contagious Mountain Bike Club and the City of Whitehorse have been working together to build the Grey Mountain Dream trail. The 11 kilometer trail will traverse Grey Mountain from the north-west side of Grey Mountain to the parking lot on the south side and will provide easy access to the rest of the trail network. In addition to building trail infrastructure, this project also builds community by providing summer employment to youth at-risk. Each year, the Grey Mountain Dream project employs up to 8 youth for 6 weeks of summer employment. Youth on the Trail Crew report that they are making more positive choices while working on the Crew and that they are more confident to apply for jobs after having taken part in this work experience. The Trail Crew love being out on the land and take pride in knowing that they are building up their community and that their work will be evident for generations to come.
By supporting the Grey Mountain Dream, you are supporting employment, capacity building and mentoring for youth in our community as well as helping to realize The Dream!
