Imagine never having a book you could read over and over until the cover falls off. Or never having written your name in your very best handwriting on the inside cover so it will be forever yours. What if you never knew the joy of book ownership?
Almost 25% of Canadian homes don’t have a single book. But owning books matters. Research shows the more books a child has at home, the better the chance they will grow up to be confident, joyful readers with brighter futures.
Last year our generous donors helped us distribute over 37,000 children's books in our community. But there are over 65,000 children in Calgary and more across Alberta that still may not have something to read.
Help ensure every child has something to read!
- $100 can provide 10 babies with a new book along with resources for their parents.
- $250 can place quality children's books in the homes of 25 families who need them most.
- $500 can provide 100 babies with a new book along with resources for their parents.
- $1000 supports struggling young readers through the work we do to recruit and train thousands of volunteers.
"The simplest way to make sure that we raise literate children is to teach them to read, and to show them that reading is a pleasurable activity. And that means, at its simplest, finding books that they enjoy, giving them access to those books, and letting them read them". ― Neil Gaiman
