It is our intention to construct a Resource Centre. This Centre will be a place for clients of CDBA-NB, as well as those from outside agencies, to have a place to go to learn and create. The Centre will include the Lorna Thompson Memorial Snoezelen Room, a resource/teaching kitchen, an art room, a recreation room, a meeting room, a sensory garden and the office of CDBA-NB.
The Canadian Deafblind Association-NB Inc. now finds itself in a situation that may prevent it from continuing to provide the best possible services for some of these individuals in the future unless an adequate Resource Centre is provided. As part of our clients' programs, CDBA-NB helps the individual to continue with present life skills and continue to grow and develop new life and vocational skills.
Our request is for financial assistance to have the Centre built. The estimated size of the facility will consist of 2,730 square feet on level and the basement will consist of 2,106 square feet. This is accordance with the estimate provided by Northrup Homes. Estimated cost is $350,000 including taxes at 15% that would include the home, basement, on site plumbing, electrical and site work.
One acre of land complete with water and sewage provision has been donated. A Mapleleaf Home, through Northrup Homes, will be slightly modified to meet the needs of the Centre. There are a few items to address prior to making an official building permit application to the City of Fredericton. It is anticipated that site preparation and construction will occur by June 2019.
The Resource Centre will include the Lorna Thompson Memorial Snoezelen Room, a resource/teaching kitchen, an art room, a recreation room, a meeting room, a sensory garden and the office of CDBA-NB. The entire Centre will be handicap accessible.
The basement of the Centre will be partly ground level so as to provide access to mechanical and electrical rooms, storage room and art studio along with room to grow.
