We are Golden Rescue of Canada. Over the past 25 years, we have rescued, rehabilitated, and rehomed more than 2,300 beautiful Golden Retrievers who have needed a second chance at life. Some of our Goldens have been surrendered by their owners, found on the side of the road, tossed out of cars or left abandoned or badly neglected or abused. Every story is different and our goal is to make sure that every story ends well for these gentle souls.
Recently, we have become aware of the plight of Golden Retrievers in Istanbul, Turkey who have fallen on hard times and who are either living on the street or in shelters. Golden Rescue travelled to Istanbul to learn more about this situation and to witness first-hand how desperately these Goldens needed to land in a soft place, into the arms of loving forever families who would care for them for the rest of their lives. It was clear we needed to help, and so began our Rescue Mission of Love - Operation Istanbul. As of March 5th, we will have rescued 38 Goldens, flying them into Canada and ensuring their health and safety every step of the way. And we’re just getting started.
CITY News and CBC recently called these beauties ‘ruff-ugees’ and covered the emotional arrival of eight Goldens on February 25th. This is what it looked like: http://www.cbc.ca/player/play/2684475630/
The cost for saving an Istanbul Golden is approximately $2,000 per dog for veterinary fees, including medications and surgeries, and flight transfers. Our plan is to rescue as many Goldens as possible, funds permitting, with a goal of 16 Goldens per month for as long as we possibly can.
