HOLD THE SPACE

COVID 19 has forced us to cancel our production of Blackhorse and postpone our entire 2020 season to next year. For the first time in our 42 year history, there will be no theatre on the farm this summer.

The public order banning gatherings of fifty people or more has made it impossible for our company to produce a regular summer show: our team of artists, crew, cooks, horsewomen, and front of house folks number over fifty people! In addition, most of our theatre artists come from the larger city centers like Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, and Vancouver, and it just doesn’t make sense for people to travel long distances at this time.

According to the provincial Restart Plan, companies like ours will be the last to re-open.

For the good of our community, our stage must remain dark, and our stands must remain empty. But we will pay a steep price. The cancellation of our summer show represents the loss of over $200,000 in revenues. And while our ticket sales have stopped, our operating costs have not. Our responsibilities to our artists, our administration, and our eighty acres remain.

We are calling on you, our audience: if a Caravan show is part of your summer experience – if you have ever brought your friends and family to a picnic in the parking lot, enjoy a Crannog Ale and a bag of popcorn, stroll by the sunflowers, take selfies by the red Medicine wagon, and experience our one-of-a-kind spectacular theatre under the Okanagan stars, please consider donating what would have been the value of your tickets to us.

Your contribution will help us support the artists, care for our venue, and maintain the momentum of the last few years so that we can come back healthy and ready to make some great theatre happen next spring.

And we will be back, no matter where we are at with Covid-19. Over the following months, we will be preparing for several scenarios, from the fifty person maximum capacity to our regular capacity of four hundred. We will get through this challenging time, and we will create a spectacular show next summer, and we will celebrate!
