Ontario Youth Choir program 2019

Campaign Ended Aug. 31, 2019
The Ontario Youth Choir (OYC), founded by Choirs Ontario in 1971, is a choral training program which provides a unique opportunity for young singers from across Ontario to work with some of Canada's outstanding choral leaders. An unforgettable experience, the Ontario Youth Choir fosters connections and friendships among the next generation of Ontario's choral community. We are proud of our 1,800 alumni who continue to enrich their communities as choristers, conductors, soloists, accompanists, composers, and educators.

Comprised of 40 auditioned young people who come together from all over Ontario, the program offers a wonderful experience for the singers, audiences and communities they perform in. OYC offers a rare bridge from school choirs to professional choirs and serves to inspire young, talented choristers to continue to pursue the choral arts. Over the course of the camp, OYC choristers show a dramatic growth in musical skill and confidence. 75% of participants continue to pursue the choral arts and 3-4 choristers per cohort go on to pursue music professionally.

The program is unique in Ontario with similar provincial programs across the country. Ontario Youth Choir is one of the most comprehensive among other provincial programs, being the only week-long residency-based and one of the few to offer a full concert repertoire. Many participating choristers and conductors agree that this format is optimal and in fact, produces some of the strongest and exceptionally talented singers for the National Youth Choir.

Your generous gift will help cover expenses associated with mounting and running this program, including paying professional conductor, collaborative pianist, and vocal coaches, renting rehearsal and performance spaces, purchasing sheet music and touring.

Support this one of a kind program today and consider one of the categories below to encourage the next generation of choral artists in our province.
