Dancers’ Studio West is a resource and production organization dedicated to the evolution of contemporary dance practices. Through research labs, technical training, inclusive community initiatives and public presentations, we create opportunities for learning, exchange, reflection and development for practitioners and the public alike.
Based in Calgary, Alberta, Dancers' Studio West has been as a leader in the local, regional and national contemporary dance communities for 40 years.
Under the Artistic Direction of Sasha Ivanochko, we explore the body and the questions of our time that impact and inform it. We are committed to supporting the diversity of contemporary dance practices in the province of Alberta, with programming designed to increase artist's capacity to learn new skills, research, experiment, innovate, create, and to develop their career. We are community driven, and we strive to be accessible and to remain responsive to the ongoing developments in the field of dance.
Annual programming features long-term artist residencies, The Quick+Dirty: A Festival for Emerging Artists and Ideas, the Research Lab and Creative Intensive, The Talking Thinking Dancing body and other artist talks an forums that together offer a range of experiences for both practitioners and the public.
